TUF: Forrest vs. Rampage, Episode 5

Hello everyone! It’s Wednesday night, so that means it’s TUF time! I will try to muddle through this episode the best that I can, though I must say, my computer has been on the wonky side since I did my crazy liveblogging of the draft. Come on computer! You can do it!

Busy Saturday

So many things going on this Saturday, so little time. The MMA world is quiet, well, as quiet as it can be, but, the US Senior Nationals are going on this weekend in Vegas. I will do a couple follow up posts, but for results you should go heah and heah.

TUF: Forrest vs. Rampage, Episode 4

I’m getting started a little late tonight-sorry about that. Apparently, some people thought I was a little rough on Dana last week. I guess it’s just that I’m coming from the wrestling world, where the funk is a normal part of the sport. I’m sure Dana can handle it. Onto the show…

Linky McLinkerson: Do I Really Have to Go to Work?

It’s 6:40, and my couch is so comfy. Alas. I do have to go to work, but before I head in, I wanted to share some links with you.

• Jason Bryant of Intermat has moved his blog to a free site. Check it out for daily musings on the wrestling world.
• U.S. Senior Nationals are this weekend in Vegas, and they will have a bearing on the Olympic Trials. The Mat provides a preview of freestyle.
• Sadly, my man Mike Zadick did not qualify the US for the Olympics at 60 kg. He has one more chance on the first weekend of May.
• Chuck Liddell has been forced to drop out of UFC 85 due to a hamstring injury. Dana White is going to have to do some fast wheeling and dealing, because without Liddell-Evans, that card is pretty weak.
• Kalib Starnes was cut from the UFC yesterday. This is hardly a surprise, considering Starnes’ embarrassing performance at UFC 83 this weekend. In a sport where almost anything goes, the one thing that does not go is ducking a fight. I doubt any other large fighting organization will sign him. It will be interesting to see where he lands.
• Dana White says that Serra-Hughes is still a possibility.
• Finally, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has an excellent profile of the Cornell wrestler who is fighting cancer, Adam Frey.

UFC 83: Nice Guys Finish First

Well, except for Michael Bisping. However, there wasn’t really a nice guy option in that fight. This was the rare event where the main cards live up to their hype, and we saw some good knockouts. Here is a full recap from someone who wasn’t drinking too much, and information on the fight night bonuses. My thoughts on the evening…

• Lutter’s armbar attempt in the first round was pretty weak. Franklin was in no danger of being submitted.
• Franklin was looking cut last night. As Ezra said: “He can teach me anything he wants.”
• More from Ezra: “Franklin looked better and Lutter looked worse than I anticipated.” Here’s my thing: outside of TUF, Lutter has never looked that good. I’ve always seen him as an underachiever, and last night was no different.
• I love when intelligent guys like Franklin are interviewed. He pretty much called Lutter a bitch without saying “You’re a bitch.” Love it!
• GSP in the red gi = HOT.
• At my bar, I was the only person cheering for GSP. Sorry, I just can’t cheer for the guy with “Buy and sell guns” on his shirt.
• GSP was amazing. His takedowns, knees. strikes, everything were as close to perfect as I’ve seen in a long time.
• Serra, on the other hand, looked like he had no idea just how good GSP was. Didn’t he watch the Hughes fight?
• A friend of mine asked if the knees that put Serra away were illegal. Not only were they legal, they were perfectly placed so they would be legal.
• I didn’t get to the bar until the very beginning of Lutter-Franklin, but I heard about Bisping’s match, and it sounds like his cut down to 185 was a very good move.
• Kenny Florian > Joe Rogan

I think that’s everything. I’ve got to go to church now!

I’m a Lady!

I’m a good girl-I am! I was recently invited to join Ladies… a group of female bloggers who appreciate the players as much as they appreciate the game. I will be posting over there a few times a week.

My coverage of UFC and wrestling over here will not change. With so many UFC and wrestling events on the schedule, I will be posting here a’plenty. At Ladies…, I will also get a chance to write about football, baseball, and other sports that I love. Check me, and the other 9 fine Ladies, out!

UFC 83: I Like When Things Rhyme

This Saturday, UFC 83’s fight will be played out in front of the largest live crowd ever to watch a UFC event. The Ultimate Fighting world will converge upon Montreal, the hometown of Georges St. Pierre. (A note from GSP’s Wikipedia entry-he once worked as a bouncer at a club called the Fuzzy Brossard. So there you go.) We will have lots of great accents on this evening, with GSP, Michael Bisping, and Matt Serra all representing their ‘hoods. Rich Franklin will of course be representing Ohio, but do Ohioans have an accent? Predictions and a roundup, after the jump.

A lovely day in Chicago:70 degrees for the first time in six months, no cougar attacks, and the Cubs are wailing on the Reds. Best of all, we have another episode of the Ultimate Fighter! Tonight, the coaches will pick teams, and the battle of the funny between Forrest and Rampage with continue. Onto the show!
